Service Description

In many Western cultures, tea is often enjoyed as a social beverage. People gather over a cup of tea to connect, share stories, and enjoy meaningful conversations. The tea itself is often secondary to the relationships and discussions it brings together. The traditional Japanese tea ceremony offers a very different perspective. More than simply preparing and drinking tea, it is a mindful practice rooted in Zen philosophy, emphasizing harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility. Every movement, gesture, and moment is intentional, making the ceremony a form of meditation as much as a cultural tradition. In this workshop, you will discover some history and traditions of the Japanese tea ceremony. You will learn about its setting, etiquette, sequence, and the deeper Zen principles that give the ceremony its meaning. Have you ever wondered why the Japanese tea ceremony is held in such high regard? Together, we will explore the philosophy and cultural significance that have preserved this tradition for centuries. Most people know that green tea is celebrated for its many health benefits—but how much do you really know about it? In this workshop, you will be introduced to three of the many varieties of Japanese green tea, learning about their unique characteristics, cultivation, flavor profiles, and preparation methods. The workshop concludes with a hands-on matcha experience. You will learn how to properly prepare traditional matcha using authentic tea ceremony tools, whisk your own bowl of tea, and discover how to fully appreciate its taste, texture, and mindful preparation. Whether you are curious about Japanese culture, interested in tea, or simply looking for a unique and meaningful experience, this workshop offers an introduction to the beauty, philosophy, and artistry of the Japanese tea ceremony.
