Sound has the ability to repair aspects of ourselves that are out of alignment (that need repair) as well as to restore us to spiritual wholeness.

A few years ago when I was in a Singing Bowls shop in Nepal, I was fascinated to see how many bowls were stacked up against the walls - different sizes and musical notes. Shoppers put different bowls on their heads and strike them multiple times until they find a bowl they could connect with. I did not understand what the bowls were about. I bought a small one from the store just because I loved the way it looked and it was just sitting on my meditation table for years. Until recently.....

I was so drawn to these bowls that I wanted to learn about about them. So I did. I am so fortunate that I can study about the Tibetan Singing Bowls with the Singing Bowl Master from Nepal - SUREN SHRESTHA. Suren and his family have been practicing traditional healing modalities with the singing bowls for generations.

Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for healing for centuries. They are not just for fun! Their whole purpose is to restore vibratory frequencies of the body, mind, and soul that are out of harmony and diseased. In Suren Shrestha's book he stated, "Healing through sound and vibration has been known to reduce stress, improve concentration, reduce blood pressure, stimulate life force flow in the body, improve immunity, harmonize the chakras with the energy field, heighten intuition and perception, synchronize the brain hemispheres, remove mental and emotional negativity , and enhance creativity."

Each bowl has a specific note (a good quality bowl) and each note is for different chakra. There are different healing modalities healers use with these bowls. They include treatments for physical issues, anxiety, stress, depression, chakra balancing, and many more.

The first time I experienced the relaxation therapy with the bowls surrounding my body, I could not believe how relaxed I was feeling during the treatment and long after. I felt like the sound waves penetrate through my body over and over again. My body felt so rejuvenated after the treatment as if all the cells in my body have been awaken and recharged.

Ever since I started playing the bowls every morning as part of my daily meditation, I found that I was much less vulnerable to stress. I could more easily avoid conflicts as well as irritation from minor things. I can effortlessly stay mellow throughout the day.

Now I understand why people in the Nepal bowl shop put the bowls on their heads. I do that every morning as well. When I put the bowl down after a few minutes of the sound and vibration therapy, my head is clear and I have great concentration at work. Whenever I have a headache, I "wear" my bowl and strike it for a few minutes then the headache disappears.

The calming effect from the bowls is long lasting. They are truly amazing.
